2 rocket launchers, 62 Chinese SMGs recovered in Narayanganj, 3 held

Police today claimed to have recovered a huge cache of firearms and ammunition including two rocket launchers and 62 Chinese sub machine guns (SMGs) from Rupganj of Narayanganj.
Three people were also detained in connection with the recovery, Faruque Hossain, additional superintendent of police in Narayanganj, told reporters at the spot.
Acting on a tip-off, police began a raid at sector no. 5 of Purbachal in Rupganj area early today that continued till 11:00am, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting police.
Gleaning information from an alleged trader, who was arrested with a rifle last night, police conducted the raid “in a land” in the area and recovered two rocket launchers, 62 Chinese sub machine guns, 42 hand grenades, 40 magazines, four pistols and huge cache of explosives from the underground, said Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Rupganj Police Station.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque visited the spot this morning.
“The firearms and ammunition have been assembled here in a bid to carry out sabotages in the country,” he told journalists.
Police suspect there might be more firearms and ammunition in the area.
